Stanislava Ovchinnikova is a Kyiv-born, Helsinki-based interdisciplinary artist working with photography, performance, and writing to examine how (memories of) interpersonal, institutional, and structural violence shape our relationships with one another and the spaces that we inhabit. Her most recent work addressed the role of institutional architecture in the construction of refugee identity and lived experience, responding to and speaking from within the feelings of suspension, indeterminacy, and unease born by the governmental policies around border control and widespread modes of (art) institutional and media representation of displaced people.

She held solo exhibitions in Turun Taiteen Talo (FI) and PostPlay lab (UA), created work on commission for Pori Art Museum (FI), and partook in group exhibitions at the Amos Rex Museum (FI), Pori Art Museum (FI), Alkovi Galleria (FI), Titanik Galleria (FI), and Show Gallery (US), among others. Her performances premiered in the Amos Rex Museum, Kaunas Artists’ House, PostPlay Theatre, and the streets of Helsinki. She was a resident at Nuori Taide (FI), Finnish Darkroom Association, La Porte Peinte (FR), and Sodas 2123 (LT) among others, and received support from numerous European foundations including Koneen Säätiö, Amos Anderson Fond, German Library Association, and the House of Europe.

In 2024, she also convened an interdisciplinary artistic collective Bark!, which approaches human-canine relationships as sites of artistic, social, and spatial inquiry, and currently comprises a dog behaviorist Maria Batchenko, dog Los’, and guest contributors.
