2023 / My Mother Told Me Not To Look Men In The Eye / video (silent)

My Mother Told Me Not To Look Men In The Eye is a silent video work. It was made after the artist watched video recordings of her own therapy sessions done to treat PTSD she developed after experiencing sexual violence. On those video recordings, she observed the involuntary movements her body was making while she was narrating the memory of violence to her therapist. In this video work, she cites and reworks these movements.

With gratitude to Ukraine Solidarity Residency Program / Kristinestad Artist Residency / HIAP
