2023 / My Mother Told Me Not To Look Men In The Eye / video (silent)

My Mother Told Me Not To Look Men In The Eye is a silent video work. It was made after I rewatched video recordings of my therapy sessions aimed at treating PTSD following an experience of sexual violence. On those video recordings, I observed the involuntary movements my body was making while I was narrating the memory of violence to my therapist. In this video work, I cite and rework these movements.

With gratitude to Ukraine Solidarity Residency Program / Kristinestad Artist Residency / HIAP
